A REC meter is a device used to measure the production of renewable energy from sources such as solar, wind, or hydro facilities. This can be done using a solar production meter or an AC production meter, or through web-based reporting software apps. The lifetime or total production numbers displayed by these apps are the equivalent of a meter reading, and should be reported to the independent verifier/monitor (IM) for the purpose of verifying and selling Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).
By accurately tracking and reporting renewable energy production, producers can earn income from the sale of RECs and help promote the use of sustainable energy sources.
