What is a REC meter?

A REC meter is a device used to measure the production of renewable energy from sources such as solar, wind, or hydro facilities. This can be done using a solar production meter or an AC production meter, or through web-based reporting software apps. The LIFETIME or TOTAL production numbers displayed by these apps are the equivalent of a meter reading, and should be reported to the independent verifier/monitor (IV or IM) for the purpose of verifying and UPLOADING Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to the National Database at GIS. https://www1.nepoolgis.com

By accurately tracking and reporting renewable energy production, producers can earn income from the sale of RECs and help promote the use of sustainable energy sources.
